Easter in Thessaloniki and Skopje

Over the Easter break I decided to visit my sister daisy, as she is studying in Greece on exchange programme 'Erasmus'. I was excited to get out of my comfort zone and explore different countries and cultures. Although I had an ongoing project I decided to have a break from this and just enjoy the country and see the interesting places Greece has to offer. To the observing eye, you will notice alot of graffiti in different forms- anarchist or decoration. I loved the fun and experimental type, the pictures below were taken at a town in Athens near the central train station. The surrounding areas were quite poor and old fashioned, so this huge mural dedicated to the artists work was fascinating and really livened up the street.

In Central Athens we passed a magazine shoot taking place, it was interesting to watch the crew fuss around her.

There were some other really interesting pieces I found in side streets, this picture were taken in Thessaloniki itself:

We took the train to Skopje in Macedonia- it took 10 hours but was a very interesting place to visit! With some contrasting extreme poverty and rich areas with beautiful architecture and expensive cars. My favourite place was the old town- we saw some really amazing old fabrics, animal skins and antiques for sale. Traditional Macedonian food was also delicious and very cheap!

Here are some of the flower markets we passed, as I have worked in a florist for 6 years, I love flowers and plants and it is really interesting for me to see how the floral arrangements are presented in different countries.

After a wonderful 2 weeks travelling and exploring I got home, and had organised to visit S.L.A Glass design, Susan let me visit her studio and taught me about the glass techniques and how her designs are made from start to finish. Her glass pieces are gorgeous, as she cuts the glass and uses her huge kiln to finish the product. I helped cut small pieces that were made into little badges and we stuck swarovski crystals onto them. Susans designs are absolutely gorgeous and I wish her all the best in the future.
